This bill modifies the coverage of chiropractic services in Minnesota's medical assistance and MinnesotaCare programs by expanding and clarifying the types of services that can be covered. Under the new provisions, medical assistance will now cover chiropractic services and related services recommended by licensed health care professionals using generally accepted chiropractic standards of care. The bill specifically includes medical evaluation and management services, manual therapy, spinal manipulation, and therapeutic exercises for treating acute and chronic spinal pain and neuromusculoskeletal conditions related to the spine. The bill maintains the existing limitation of 24 chiropractic visits per year, with the option to obtain prior authorization for additional visits. Additionally, x-ray coverage is now explicitly defined as limited to radiological examinations of the full spine, specific spinal areas, pelvis, or sacroiliac joints, and only when necessary to support a diagnosis of subluxation. The bill also repeals a previous subdivision in the MinnesotaCare statute that outlined chiropractic service coverage, effectively consolidating and updating the language for these healthcare services.
