This bill modifies Minnesota statutes related to consecutive sentencing for inmates who commit assaults while in confinement. Specifically, the bill expands the existing law that currently applies to state prison inmates to also cover inmates in county jails, county regional jails, county work farms, and county workhouses. Under the new provisions, if an inmate commits an assault against a county sheriff or sheriff's deputy while in custody, the sentence for that assault will be served consecutively to any other sentences the inmate is serving or will serve. Additionally, the inmate will not receive credit for time served in their previous confinement when serving the new assault sentence.
