AI Summary

This bill requires the Mississippi State Department of Education to develop and integrate a "success sequence and character education" curriculum for public school students in kindergarten through 12th grade, to be implemented by the 2027-2028 school year. The curriculum must focus on teaching students about completing high school, working full-time, and getting married before having children, along with 15 specific character traits including trustworthiness, responsibility, respect for authority, patriotism, and sexual fidelity. School districts must form a committee of parents, educators, and community members to help develop the curriculum, and the bill explicitly prohibits religious or political indoctrination. The bill allows for optional after-school programs led by third parties that can provide additional instruction on these topics, with student participation requiring parental consent. The State Department of Education is required to compile and annually report data on the curriculum's impact on student discipline and academic achievement, and can accept federal and private funding to assist in implementation. The department is also authorized to adopt rules to support the curriculum's execution, with the goal of promoting values deeply rooted in United States history and tradition.
