AI Summary

This bill establishes a six-year pilot project called the "High School Water Management and Conservation Project" administered by the Public Education Department to explore innovative environmental education for high school students. The project requires the department to develop a multidisciplinary, experiential elective course sequence in water management and conservation that counts toward graduation requirements. The department will select at least five school districts across different regions and community types, providing financial assistance grants to support the program's implementation. Participants will develop coursework that focuses on practical learning and potential career pathways, with opportunities to collaborate with the Department of Environment, post-secondary institutions, counties, and municipalities. The department is mandated to collect data on student participation, performance, and post-graduation plans, and must submit annual reports to the legislative education study committee, with a final report due by June 30, 2031. To support the initiative, the bill appropriates $1.25 million from the general fund, to be spent across fiscal years 2026-2031, with any unused funds reverting back to the general fund at the end of the project period.
