This bill modifies Minnesota's existing law regarding nonoxygenated gasoline storage and sales by expanding the number of storage tanks permitted for nonoxygenated gasoline at retail gas stations. Specifically, the bill allows retail gas stations located within five miles of a motor sports racing facility to have up to two storage tanks for nonoxygenated gasoline, whereas previously only one storage tank was permitted. The nonoxygenated gasoline must be unleaded premium grade and can only be used in specific vehicle types such as collector vehicles, off-road vehicles, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, or small engines. The bill maintains existing requirements that pump stands must be clearly posted with a notice explaining the restricted use of the nonoxygenated gasoline, and stations selling this type of fuel must register with the state's director every two years, reporting their annual sales volume. This change appears designed to provide more flexibility for gas stations near motor sports facilities to accommodate specialized fuel needs for racing and recreational vehicles.
