This bill amends the Public School Code of 1949 to require the Pennsylvania Department of Education to develop and disseminate educational resources about Black history for schools across the state. Specifically, the department must create age-appropriate and sequential instructional materials about the Black experience within three months of the bill's effective date, and update these resources as needed. The department is also required to publish these materials on its equity and inclusion website and develop guidelines for schools creating dedicated Black history programs or courses. Schools are given flexibility to use the department's resources or other appropriate materials when integrating Black history into their curriculum. The bill defines "school entity" broadly to include traditional public schools, intermediate units, career and technical schools, charter schools, cyber charter schools, and private or nonpublic schools. The goal is to ensure comprehensive and meaningful education about Black history across different types of educational institutions in Pennsylvania, with materials designed to be appropriate for students at various age levels.
