This bill amends the Safe Drinking Water, Wildfire Prevention, Drought Preparedness, and Clean Air Bond Act of 2024 to expand the existing wildfire mitigation grant program administered by the Office of Emergency Services. The bill adds several new eligible project types to the $135 million grant program, including improvements to public evacuation routes in high fire hazard zones, mobile rigid dip tanks (water storage containers for firefighting equipment), prepositioned mobile rigid water storage, and improvements to fire engines and helicopters. The bill also allows grants for backup electrical generators for water reservoirs, in coordination with the Public Utilities Commission. These additions aim to enhance wildfire prevention, community resilience, and emergency preparedness, with a focus on supporting disadvantaged communities and vulnerable populations. The grant program will continue to prioritize projects that reduce wildfire risks, harden community infrastructure, create evacuation centers, improve water delivery systems for fire suppression, and provide incentives for reducing hazard risks. The bill maintains the existing requirement that the Office of Emergency Services work with the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection to administer the grants and provide technical assistance to communities most in need.
