This bill modifies Maryland's education law to establish a temporary admission process for students who lack complete immunization documentation. Under the new provisions, each county board of education must temporarily admit a student if their parent or guardian cannot immediately provide proof of immunization as required by state regulations. Parents or guardians of such students will be required to present evidence of a scheduled appointment with a healthcare professional or local health department within 60 calendar days of temporary admission. The purpose of this appointment is to either receive required immunizations, reconstruct lost immunization records, or acquire documentation of age-appropriate immunity. Specifically, parents must provide proof of the required immunizations on the school day following the healthcare appointment. This bill aims to ensure that students are not unnecessarily excluded from school while giving families a reasonable opportunity to obtain and submit proper immunization documentation. The new regulations will take effect on July 1, 2025, providing school districts and families time to prepare for the new process.
