This bill modifies the existing public health law by removing private and parochial child care centers, day nurseries, day care agencies, and nursery schools from the definition of "school" in the context of immunization requirements. Specifically, the bill amends paragraph a of subdivision 1 of section 2164 of the public health law to narrow the definition of "school" to only include public pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary, intermediate, and secondary schools. By doing so, the bill effectively exempts private and parochial schools and day care centers from current immunization requirements that previously applied to them. The change appears to reduce mandatory immunization coverage for these types of educational and childcare institutions. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon enactment.
