This bill makes several changes related to academic intervention and math improvement in Ohio schools, including updating the list of approved high-quality tutoring programs, exempting classical schools from certain science of reading requirements for English language arts curriculum for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years, and requiring an independent entity to review the Department of Education and Workforce's selection of diagnostic assessments before finalizing approved lists. It also allows school districts and community schools to continue using existing reading diagnostic assessments under certain conditions until their contracts expire or by July 1, 2028, whichever comes first, or if a review shows the assessment doesn't meet science of reading requirements, and mandates a report on the use of these assessments. Additionally, the bill repeals a section of existing law related to academic intervention services and addresses how certain sections of law are harmonized if amended by multiple bills.
