This resolution honors Master Trooper John Wayne Valdario Sr. for his extraordinary fifty-five-year career in law enforcement, primarily with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. Originally from Massachusetts and a United States Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam, Valdario began his law enforcement career with the South Carolina Highway Patrol in 1970 after being encouraged to apply while stationed in Aiken. Throughout his distinguished career, he was notably promoted to Major and Commander of the State Transport Police in 1993, became the first and only officer to hold the "Commander" title, and even returned to service after a brief period with the Air National Guard following the September 11, 2001 attacks. On January 10, 2025, he received his eleventh service star, representing his remarkable fifty-five years in law enforcement, including fifty-two years with the Department of Public Safety and three years with the Town of Pine Ridge. The South Carolina General Assembly formally congratulates Valdario for his dedicated service and wishes him happiness in his future endeavors, and has resolved to present him with a copy of this resolution.
