This bill, known as the "emergency school relief act of 2026," aims to increase the amount of revenue from lottery ticket sales that is directed towards state aid for education funding by adjusting the percentages of revenue allocated to the state lottery fund. Specifically, it reduces the percentage of revenue from joint, multi-jurisdiction, and out-of-state lotteries that is retained for prizes from fifty-five percent to forty percent, and from certain daily number games like "Daily Numbers Game," "Win 4," "Pick 10," and "Take 5" from fifty percent to thirty-five percent. Additionally, it increases the percentage of revenue from games defined in paragraph four of subdivision a of section 1612 of the tax law that is paid into the state lottery fund from forty-five percent to sixty percent, and from games defined in paragraph three of subdivision a of section 1612 of the tax law from thirty-five percent to fifty percent. These changes are intended to provide more financial support for schools.
