This bill revises the composition and appointment process for county fair and recreation boards in counties with populations between 100,000 and 700,000 (currently only Washoe County). The key change is that instead of the three initial members (one from the county commissioners, one from the largest city, and one from the next largest city) selecting the remaining six members, all nine board members will now be responsible for appointing the six additional members who represent specific interests such as air service, tourism, business, and gaming. The bill also modifies the process for electing the board's Chair, allowing any board member (not just the initially appointed three) to be elected as Chair. If the board finds the initial list of nominees for the six additional positions unacceptable, they can request a new list of nominees. The bill maintains existing provisions about term lengths, with the three initially appointed members' terms being coterminous with their official terms, and the six additional members serving two-year terms, with the ability to serve two consecutive terms. Members must remain engaged in the business or occupation they were appointed to represent, or they will be replaced.
