The bill mandates that the Secretary of State share voter information and data from the statewide voter registration database, motor vehicle department, and other state agencies with ERIC to compare voter records across states and identify duplicate or potentially ineligible voter registrations. The Secretary of State must also protect the confidentiality of shared data, receive and review ERIC reports to identify potential voter registration issues, and refer credible cases of suspected illegal voting to the Attorney General. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of State to use ERIC reports to identify eligible citizens who are not registered to vote and proactively contact them with voter registration information. The bill will be funded through federal funds, including those from the Help America Vote Act of 2002, with initial membership costs estimated at $25,000 and potential yearly expenses ranging from $37,000 to $174,000. The legislation will take effect 60 days after its passage.
