This bill amends the public authorities law to increase the number of voting members on the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) from ten to twelve. Specifically, the bill adds two new voting members who would be appointed upon the written recommendation of the Niagara County legislature. The NFTA is a public benefit corporation responsible for transportation services in the Buffalo and Niagara Falls region. The bill changes the terminology from "chairman" to "chair" and maintains the existing provisions that require members to be residents of the district, with one member from the Erie County executive's recommendation, one from the Erie County legislature, at least one transit-dependent individual, and now two additional members from the Niagara County legislature. The members continue to be appointed by the governor with senate advice and consent, serving eight-year terms, with the existing staggered term structure remaining in place.
