This bill amends Mississippi Code Section 43-27-33 to require the Department of Human Services (DHS) to transfer at least 30% of the state's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grant to the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) each fiscal year, or the maximum amount allowed by law, whichever is greater. These funds will be used as vouchers to pay for child care under the Child Care Payment Program (CCPP) for qualifying children. Additionally, the bill makes a minor grammatical correction, changing "insure" to "ensure" in the existing legal text. The legislation also includes a provision that the act will take effect on July 1, 2025, which means the new funding requirement for child care vouchers will begin with the 2025 fiscal year. The goal appears to be increasing financial support for child care services for low-income families by mandating a significant transfer of TANF funds specifically for child care vouchers.
