This bill establishes the Mississippi First Responder PTSD and Suicide Prevention Task Force, a 20-member committee designed to address mental health challenges facing first responders, including law enforcement officers, firefighters, 911 dispatchers, National Guard members, and emergency medical services personnel. The task force will comprise representatives from various state committees, departments, professional associations, and organizations, and is charged with assessing first responders' mental health needs, developing strategic plans, reducing mental health stigma, and recommending legislative and policy changes. The members will meet monthly, select a chair and vice chair, and are required to submit a comprehensive report to the Legislature by December 1, 2025, detailing their findings, recommendations, potential legislation, and funding requirements. Task force members will serve without compensation, and state agencies are obligated to provide necessary facilities, assistance, and information to support the task force's objectives. The primary goals include gathering input from first responders, identifying gaps in mental health support services, creating accessible and effective support programs, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to improve mental health resources and awareness for these critical public service professionals.
