This bill establishes a grant program to reimburse veterans and apprenticeship program sponsors for various fees related to professional training and certification. Starting July 1, 2025, the Commissioner of Consumer Protection, in collaboration with the Labor Commissioner and the Technical Education and Career System executive director, will create a program that allows eligible veterans and their apprenticeship program sponsors to be reimbursed for specific fees. These fees include examination, initial licensure, certification, and renewal fees paid to the Department of Consumer Protection; apprenticeship program sponsorship fees paid to the Labor Department; and up to $1,000 in tuition fees for veterans enrolled in Technical Education and Career System programs. The bill defines a veteran according to existing state statutes and requires the commissioners to develop an application process for the reimbursements. Additionally, the commissioners must submit a report every six months to the legislative committee overseeing veterans' affairs, detailing the number of approved applications, total reimbursement amounts, and recommendations for program improvements. The bill appropriates $100,000 from the General Fund to support this grant program for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026.
