This bill changes the frequency of voter checklist verification from every 10 years to every 4 years, specifically in the year following a Presidential election. Under the new provisions, supervisors will be required to verify the voter checklist in 2026 and then every 4 years thereafter. Between April 1 and August 1 of the verification year, supervisors must post notices of verification sessions in two appropriate places (including the town or city's website, if available) and publish notices twice in a local newspaper. During this process, supervisors will review the checklist and remove names of people who have not registered or reregistered, but they must send a notice to the person's last known address at least 30 days prior to removing their name. A person will be considered automatically reregistered if they have voted within the 4 years preceding the verification or have been added to the checklist during the 6 years before the verification. After completing the verification, supervisors must file a certificate with the secretary of state by September 1. The bill will take effect 60 days after its passage.
