AI Summary
This bill requires nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Mississippi to maintain fully operational emergency power sources capable of sustaining critical operations for at least five days during a power outage. Specifically, the emergency power system must be able to provide electricity for patients who rely on medical devices like supplemental oxygen and maintain comfortable air temperatures for residents. The State Department of Health will be required to adopt new regulations by July 1, 2025, and will conduct unannounced inspections every fifteen months to ensure compliance. Facilities will have 60 days after the regulations are published to meet the new requirements. The bill amends existing state law to add these emergency power provisions, with the goal of protecting vulnerable residents in long-term care facilities during potential power interruptions. The new regulations will include specific, reasonable criteria for essential equipment needed to maintain resident health and welfare during emergency situations.
