This bill modifies the composition requirements for the Washington County Board of License Commissioners by changing the political party representation rules. Currently, the Governor appoints three members to the Board, who must be county residents with high character and business capacity. The bill replaces the previous rule that no more than two members could be from the same political party with a new requirement that two Board members must belong to the political party that received the most votes in the most recent Board of County Commissioners election, and one member must belong to the party that received the second-highest number of votes. This ensures a more proportional political representation on the Board. The bill maintains other existing provisions, such as the six-year staggered terms, the Governor's ability to remove members for misconduct, and the requirement that Board members cannot have financial interests in alcoholic beverage manufacturing, sales, or distribution. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2025, providing time for implementation of the new appointment criteria.
