This bill modifies the Maryland Commission on Health Equity by expanding its membership and purposes. The bill adds several new members to the Commission, including the Commissioner of Correction, the Secretary of the Environment, the Secretary of Veterans and Military Families, and the Director of the Office of Health Care Quality. It also requires the addition of at least one member from the Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition. The bill broadens the Commission's purposes to include examining the impact of access to transportation, transit programs, and transit services, as well as proximity to health care facilities and primary care providers on residents' health. The Commission will continue to develop a statewide health equity plan, provide advice on health disparities, coordinate expertise across various state systems, and set goals for achieving health equity. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2025, allowing time for implementation and preparation.
