This bill amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to remove the requirement for drivers aged 75 and older to take a road test or provide a demonstration of their ability to operate a motor vehicle safely. The bill eliminates this age-specific provision, effectively treating drivers 75 and older the same as other drivers during the license renewal process. The only remaining examination requirements for these drivers will be the standard elements such as vision testing, knowledge of traffic laws, and other assessments determined necessary by the Secretary of State. The bill is set to take effect on January 1, 2026, which gives ample time for the Secretary of State to implement the changes to the driver's license renewal procedures. This change may reduce potential barriers to mobility for older drivers while maintaining overall road safety through other existing examination methods.
