Bill Summary

Amends the Firearm Concealed Carry Act. Eliminates a provision that a licensee under the Act shall not knowingly carry a firearm on any bus, train, or form of transportation paid for in whole or in part with public funds, or in any building, real property, or parking area under the control of a public transportation facility paid for in whole or in part with public funds. Effective immediately.

AI Summary

This bill amends the Firearm Concealed Carry Act by eliminating the prohibition on carrying firearms on public transportation and in public transportation facilities. Specifically, the bill removes language that previously prevented licensed concealed carry permit holders from carrying firearms on buses, trains, or other forms of transportation paid for in whole or in part with public funds, as well as in buildings, real property, or parking areas under the control of public transportation facilities. By deleting this section (designated as section 8 in the original law), the bill effectively allows individuals with valid concealed carry licenses to bring firearms onto public transportation and in public transportation-related spaces. The change is effective immediately and represents a significant expansion of where licensed gun owners can legally carry their firearms in Illinois, removing a previous restriction on transportation-related locations.
