This bill creates the Health Care Workforce Task Force within the Department of Public Health to address critical challenges in the state's healthcare workforce. The Task Force will be composed of 17 members, including state officials, legislative representatives, and representatives from various healthcare organizations, who will serve without compensation. The Task Force's primary duties include reviewing healthcare workforce regulations, identifying professional shortages, developing recommendations to recruit and retain healthcare workers, addressing barriers for underrepresented groups, exploring opportunities for foreign-trained healthcare professionals, and developing strategies to improve workforce training and reduce workplace violence. Motivated by findings that the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated existing healthcare workforce shortages and that Illinois is projected to face significant nursing shortages, the Task Force will solicit feedback from stakeholders and submit a comprehensive report to the General Assembly and Governor within one year of its first meeting. The Task Force is set to be dissolved on December 31, 2027, ensuring a focused and time-limited approach to addressing these critical healthcare workforce challenges.
