This bill makes a technical amendment to Section 14-104.10 of the Illinois Pension Code regarding service credit for federal or out-of-state employment. Specifically, the bill removes and reinserts the word "the" in a sentence describing how contributing employees can establish additional service credit for full-time employment with the federal government or state/local governments outside of Illinois. The existing provisions allow employees to receive service credit with several important limitations: they can establish up to 8 years of credit or 40% of their membership service (whichever is less), federal employment credit cannot exceed 8 years when combined with military service credit, and the employee must have terminated or relinquished any credit for that employment in other pension or retirement systems. The change appears to be purely technical and does not substantively alter the existing rules about service credit establishment.
