This bill modifies the composition of a board by making a small but significant change to how the superintendent of public instruction is represented. Specifically, the bill allows the superintendent of public instruction to be represented by a designee from their office, rather than requiring the superintendent to personally serve on the board. The board will continue to consist of six members, including the governor (or their designee), the superintendent of public instruction (or their designee), the commissioner, the director of the University of Washington school of forest resources, the dean of Washington State University's college of agricultural, human, and natural resource sciences, and a county representative from counties with state forestlands. The county representative, who must be a duly elected county legislative authority member, will continue to be selected by participating counties, with each county having one vote in the selection process, and will serve a four-year term. This change appears designed to provide more flexibility in board representation while maintaining the board's overall structure and purpose.
