This bill eliminates the existing "shotgun zone" in Minnesota, which previously restricted the types of firearms that could be used for deer hunting in a specific geographic area. Under the current law, hunters in the shotgun use area were limited to using only shotguns with single-slug shells, muzzle-loading long guns, and handguns during the regular firearms deer season. The bill would remove these restrictions, allowing all legal firearms to be used statewide during the regular firearms deer season. By repealing Minnesota Statutes section 97B.318, the bill effectively removes the previous geographic limitations on firearm types for deer hunting, providing hunters with more flexibility in their choice of hunting weapons across the entire state. This change means that hunters in the previously designated shotgun zone will now be able to use the same range of legal firearms as hunters in other parts of Minnesota.
