This bill modifies Minnesota's existing election law by adding new requirements for publishing information about temporary polling locations. Specifically, the bill requires county auditors or municipal clerks to post details about newly designated temporary polling locations on their official websites within five business days of establishing such locations. This includes providing the specific address, dates, and times when these temporary polling places will be available for voting. The bill also maintains existing provisions that allow county auditors to set up additional polling places, including special provisions for federally recognized Indian Tribes and postsecondary institutions with on-campus housing for 100 or more students. For postsecondary institutions, requests for temporary polling places must be submitted by May 31 before the election, and the location must be either on campus or within a half-mile of campus and reasonably accessible to students. Additionally, the secretary of state is now required to post similar information about these temporary polling locations on their own website within five business days of receiving notice from local election officials. This increased transparency aims to help voters more easily find and access temporary voting locations.
