This resolution commends the Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia (MGNV), a nonprofit organization celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2025, for its significant contributions to sustainable gardening and community education. Founded in 1985 and working in collaboration with the Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE), MGNV has grown to over 250 members who collectively contribute nearly 100 volunteer hours each annually. The organization maintains eight demonstration gardens, provides public workshops, operates a help desk, and in 2023 alone contributed over 22,500 volunteer hours through educational classes, gardening assistance, and native tree distribution. MGNV has also garnered recognition for its robust social media presence, with over 23,000 followers, and has received awards such as the Bill Thomas Park Volunteer Award and a Governor's Volunteerism & Community Service Award for its youth education program. The resolution officially commends MGNV for its commitment to enhancing gardening practices and community beauty in Northern Virginia, and directs the Senate Clerk to prepare a formal copy of the resolution to be presented to the organization as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration.
