This resolution congratulates Coach David Luechtefeld for his exceptional achievements in athletics, education, and public service. The resolution highlights Luechtefeld's outstanding high school basketball career, during which he scored 2,155 points and became one of the top scorers in IHSA (Illinois High School Association) history. As a coach and athletic director at Okawville High School from 1962 to 1994, he achieved remarkable success, winning nine IHSA basketball championships, seven IHSA Sectional championships, and earning a place in the Illinois Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame with 506 baseball wins. Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Luechtefeld served as a state senator for the 58th district from 1995 to 2017, holding leadership positions such as Assistant Minority Leader. The resolution also recognizes the upcoming special honoring of Luechtefeld at Okawville High School's Luechtefeld Gymnasium on January 28, 2025, and celebrates his contributions as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and public servant, while acknowledging his personal life, including his wife Flo and their four children and eleven grandchildren.
