This bill repeals two existing sections of Missouri law (67.307 and 285.550) that currently prohibit "sanctuary policies" by municipalities. Specifically, the existing law defined sanctuary policies as municipal orders or ordinances that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, such as prohibiting local officials from communicating with federal agencies about the immigration status of individuals. Under the current law, municipalities that enacted such sanctuary policies would be ineligible for state grant funding and were required to provide written notice to law enforcement about their duty to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. By repealing these sections, the bill would remove these restrictions, effectively allowing municipalities to adopt policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement without facing financial penalties. The bill does not add new language but instead completely eliminates the existing provisions that restricted municipal sanctuary policies.
