This bill establishes a program to provide prefabricated homes to impoverished veterans who have been without a permanent residence for at least 90 days. Specifically, the bill authorizes government department heads to coordinate the provision of a 20-foot insulated prefabricated home with two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a bathroom to veterans whose income is below the federal poverty line. The home can be delivered to any property owned by the veteran or by a third party with their consent. In cases where the prefabricated home does not comply with local zoning regulations, the municipality is required to identify an alternative location for the home within 60 days of determining the noncompliance. The goal of this bill is to address housing insecurity among veterans by providing them with a basic, affordable housing solution that can be quickly deployed and potentially placed on existing property.
