This resolution honors Major General John Dean Taylor, a Virginia military leader who passed away in January 2025, by recognizing his significant contributions to military service and community. A lifelong resident of Greensville County, Taylor was a Virginia Tech graduate with multiple degrees in plant pathology who had an extensive military career spanning roles as a field artillery officer, helicopter pilot, and Pentagon staff officer, ultimately rising to the rank of colonel in the Virginia Army National Guard. After retiring from the National Guard, he became the commanding general of the Virginia Defense Force (VDF), an all-volunteer reserve organization, where he demonstrated outstanding leadership. Beyond his military service, Taylor was an agricultural businessman who worked on his farm and was known for generously supporting people in need. The resolution, passed by both the House of Delegates and Senate, formally acknowledges Taylor's contributions, expresses sadness at his loss, and directs the House Clerk to prepare a copy of the resolution to be presented to his family, including his wife of 50 years, Shirley, and their children Stacey, Justin, and Jason, as a gesture of respect and remembrance.
