This bill requires local education agencies (LEAs) and public charter schools to ensure that at least one full-time employee at each school receives annual training in seizure safety and first aid to help students and staff during emergencies. The training can be satisfied by the existing training for school personnel who voluntarily assist in administering anti-seizure medications. The bill provides liability protections for trained employees, stipulating that they cannot be held liable for personal injuries resulting from their actions unless those actions constitute willful misconduct or gross negligence. Importantly, the definition of "employee" specifically excludes school nurses employed or contracted by the LEA or charter school.
