This bill proposes to amend the New York State social services law to expand Medicaid dental coverage by explicitly including dental implants, implant-related services, dental prosthetic appliances (including replacements), crowns, and root canals for both posterior and anterior teeth, as well as crown lengthening procedures when associated with a covered crown or root canal. The key requirement is that these dental procedures must be authorized by a qualified dentist to be considered medically necessary and eligible for Medicaid coverage. Currently, many of these advanced dental procedures are not automatically covered by Medicaid, so this bill would significantly broaden the range of dental services available to Medicaid recipients. The bill would take effect 90 days after becoming law, which means patients could potentially access these additional dental services through Medicaid starting approximately three months after the bill's enactment.
