This bill requires individuals arrested for a felony offense on or after July 1, 2025, to provide a biological DNA specimen using a buccal swab (a cheek swab) for identification purposes. After a magistrate or grand jury determines probable cause for the arrest, the arresting authority must collect the DNA sample before releasing the individual and forward it to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). The court will make providing this specimen a condition of bond or release.
