For both groups, the New York State Department of Social Services is required to continue providing medical assistance benefits if they meet all other eligibility requirements except those related to immigration status. TPS is a temporary humanitarian immigration status granted to individuals from countries experiencing ongoing armed conflict, environmental disasters, or other extraordinary conditions that make safe return impossible, and this bill aims to maintain healthcare coverage for such vulnerable populations regardless of changes in their federal immigration status.
