This bill increases penalties for felons possessing firearms or destructive devices in New Mexico. The legislation also clarifies that a "felon" is someone convicted of a felony who has not been pardoned and has not completed more than ten years since serving their sentence or probation. The changes to the law aim to impose stricter penalties on individuals with felony convictions who illegally possess firearms or destructive devices, with the goal of enhancing public safety. The bill will take effect on July 1, 2025.
