This bill, effective January 1, 2027, modernizes the process for registering business trade names in Georgia by establishing a statewide electronic registry managed by the Georgia Superior Court Clerks' Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA), a state agency that assists clerks of superior courts. Businesses will now be required to file initial registration statements, amendments, reregistrations, and cancellations using standardized forms created by the GSCCCA, which will be electronically submitted to the clerk of superior court and then transmitted to the GSCCCA for inclusion in the new statewide system. This system will provide public electronic access to all trade name registrations filed on or after the effective date, and existing registrations not yet in the new system can be reregistered without losing their original filing date. The bill also specifies a unified fee structure for these filings, overseen by the GSCCCA, and requires clerks of superior courts to participate in this information system.
