This bill modifies the existing law regarding special landowner turkey hunting licenses in Iowa by making several key changes. Currently, farm owners, family members, tenants, or their family members can receive one free wild turkey hunting license annually, valid only on the specific farm unit. The proposed bill removes the previous restriction limiting licenses to "bow or firearm" seasons and instead allows the license to be used during any open turkey hunting season using any authorized method of take. Additionally, the bill clarifies that each license authorizes the holder to harvest one wild turkey and eliminates the requirement to pre-designate a specific season of use. The license remains free and can be issued to either the farm owner or a family member, or the tenant or a family member, but not both. The bill does not require the owner or tenant to reside on the farm unit to qualify for the license. These changes provide more flexibility for landowners and tenants in hunting wild turkeys on their farm units, effective July 1, 2025.
