This bill amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 34-1-108(a), which deals with the appointment of guardians and conservators. A guardian or conservator is a person appointed by a court to manage the affairs of someone who is unable to do so themselves, often due to age or disability. The key change introduced by this bill is to extend the timeframe for a required court hearing on such an appointment. Previously, this hearing had to occur within sixty (60) days from when the respondent (the person for whom the guardian or conservator is being sought) was officially notified or when a guardian ad litem (a court-appointed representative for someone who cannot represent themselves in a legal proceeding) was appointed. This bill changes that deadline to ninety (90) days, providing a longer period for these proceedings.
