Beyond his professional achievements, he was deeply involved in community organizations, including the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Karem Shrine, and the Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years. The resolution highlights his personal life, noting his marriages to Vicki Hohertz (with whom he had three children) and later Merrilee Lafferty Harmon, and his diverse interests including ranching, sailing, motorcycling, and fishing.
