This bill modifies the Park District Code to change the requirements for park commissioner candidate petition signatures. Currently, candidates must gather petition signatures equal to at least 2% of voters from the last commissioner election, with a minimum of 25 signatures. The bill introduces a new provision that caps the maximum number of required signatures at 300, regardless of district size. This means that even in larger districts where 2% of voters would traditionally require more than 300 signatures, candidates will only need to collect up to 300 signatures. The bill aims to potentially make it easier for candidates to get on the ballot by limiting the signature requirement. Other existing eligibility requirements for park commissioners remain unchanged, such as being a qualified district elector, residing in the district for at least one year, and not having certain criminal convictions or outstanding debts to the park district. The bill would take effect immediately upon becoming law.
