This bill modifies the existing Workgroup on Establishing a Science and Technology Best Practices and Innovation Network by reducing the number of members and extending its operational timeline. Specifically, the bill changes the composition of the Workgroup by decreasing the number of Governor-appointed representatives from five to two in both the community-based and higher education categories, and reducing representatives from the private and nonprofit sectors from two to one each. The Workgroup will continue to include legislative members, the Maryland Technology Development Corporation's Executive Director, and a University of Maryland, Baltimore County representative. The Workgroup's primary mission remains to explore establishing an open-access science and technology network that facilitates collaboration, idea exchange, and solution development among citizen scientists and experts. The bill extends the Workgroup's reporting deadline from December 1, 2024 to December 1, 2026, and prolongs the Act's effectiveness from one year to three years and one month, with the legislation set to automatically expire on June 30, 2027. Members will continue to serve without compensation but can receive standard state travel expense reimbursements.
