AI Summary

This bill comprehensively updates the licensing and regulatory framework for various professional contractors in Georgia, focusing on electrical, plumbing, low voltage, utility, and conditioned air contracting. The bill makes several key changes, including standardizing terminology (such as changing "low-voltage" to "low voltage" throughout), revising definitions for various types of contractors, updating licensing requirements, and establishing more detailed provisions for professional licensing and certification. Notably, the bill modifies the State Construction Industry Licensing Board's composition, creates new licensing classes with specific restrictions (such as Class I and Class II licenses for different types of contractors), and introduces continuing education requirements for various contractor licenses. The bill also expands provisions related to advertising by unlicensed contractors, increases potential fines for violations, and provides special considerations for military veterans seeking professional licenses. Additionally, the bill creates a process for placing licenses on inactive status and clarifies exemptions for certain types of work, such as work performed by public utility employees or maintenance staff. The changes aim to improve consumer protection, ensure professional competency, and provide clearer regulatory guidelines for contractors across multiple trades in Georgia.
