This bill amends Tennessee law by requiring court clerks to add a $12.50 charge to every misdemeanor and felony cost bill, which will be remitted to the county government or, in multi-county judicial districts, to the district attorneys general conference. The funds can be used at the district attorney general's discretion to support public safety services, and are supplemental to existing funding for district attorneys. The bill requires county legislative bodies to approve the charge by a two-thirds vote, and mandates that district attorneys who receive these funds submit an annual report detailing the amount collected and how the funds were used. The charge does not apply to nonmoving traffic violations and will not take priority over restitution or criminal injuries compensation fund fees. The district attorneys general conference must then compile these reports and submit an aggregate report to key legislative committee chairs by February 15 each year. The law takes effect immediately upon becoming law, with the goal of providing additional resources for public safety services in Tennessee's judicial districts.
