Bill Summary
Reinserts the provisions of the introduced bill with the following changes. Provides that a municipality or fire protection district may fix, charge, and collect reasonable fees from an assisted living facility or nursing home facility for every lift-assist service after the 6th lift assist service provided to that assisted living facility or nursing home facility that year rendered by the municipality or fire protection district in connection with providing lift-assist services to a patient or other individual (rather than fix, charge, and collect reasonable fees from individuals, assisted living facilities, and nursing home facilities for all nonemergency lift-assist services rendered by the municipality or fire protection district in connection with providing nonemergency lift-assist services to a patient or other individual). Makes changes to definitions.
AI Summary
This bill allows municipalities and fire protection districts to charge fees to assisted living facilities and nursing homes for lift-assist services after the sixth such service in a year. A "lift-assist service" is defined as a response to help lift a patient or individual from one position to another, but specifically excludes transportation to healthcare facilities. The bill permits these local government entities to charge fees that do not exceed their actual personnel and equipment costs for providing these services. The legislation applies to both municipal fire departments and fire protection districts, enabling them to recover some of the costs associated with repeated lift-assist calls to the same facilities. This change aims to address the financial burden on local emergency services when they are repeatedly called to help move patients within assisted living or nursing home facilities, while ensuring that the fees remain reasonable and directly tied to the actual costs of providing the service.
