This bill modifies the eligibility requirements for ad valorem (property) tax exemptions for nonprofit homes for the aged in Florida. Currently, to qualify for the tax exemption, an organization must be a nonprofit corporation under Chapter 617 or a limited partnership with a nonprofit corporation as its sole general partner. The bill expands this criteria to also allow a limited partnership where the sole general partner is an entity not licensed under Chapter 429 that is wholly owned by a nonprofit corporation under Chapter 617. Additionally, the nonprofit corporation must have been recognized as a tax-exempt charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as of January 1 of the tax year for which the exemption is sought. The bill makes these changes applicable to the 2026 ad valorem tax roll and will take effect on January 1, 2026. This modification aims to provide more flexibility for nonprofit organizations seeking property tax exemptions for homes for the aged while maintaining certain nonprofit and charitable status requirements.
