This bill requires the Nevada Department of Education to develop age-appropriate curriculum standards for teaching human trafficking prevention to students in grades 6-12. The Department must create curriculum standards that cover the prevalence and nature of human trafficking (including trafficking of minors), strategies to reduce the risk of becoming a victim, and methods for safely seeking help if a student is at risk. Additionally, the bill mandates that school districts and charter schools implement this instruction as part of their health curriculum. The Department must also develop recommendations for training at least one school employee on human trafficking prevention and create educational materials for parents about the instruction. School districts will be required to notify parents about the curriculum and allow them to opt their children out of the instruction, except when it is part of a required course for graduation. Instructors providing this instruction must meet specific qualifications, such as being a licensed teacher, having special training, or working for an agency focused on child safety or human trafficking prevention. The bill aims to increase awareness and provide students with tools to recognize and prevent human trafficking, with implementation set to begin on July 1, 2026.
